Though not all will admit it, many buyers don’t have realistic expectations when they start their home search. Here are a few steps you need to take when preparing to buy a home that can save you a lot of heartache later on:
1. Meet with a Realtor. You don’t have to jump into any sort of commitment by simply meeting with a Realtor; you can just discuss the process. After only 30 minutes or so of discussing your situation, you and that agent should have a firmer idea of whether you should buy now or wait.
This meeting, known as a buyer’s orientation, also gives you insight on some things that you need to do to be prepared for a successful home purchase.
2. Be proactive. Cruise around different neighborhoods and note houses you think you’d enjoy. Attend open houses, do walk-throughs, and ask questions. Make sure you pick an area that aligns with your school district preferences. Are there any properties near some of your favorite shops or restaurants?
Figuring out early on what your needs and wants are can help you make fantastic headway when you start the process in earnest.
A buyer’s orientation gives you insight on things you need to do to be prepared for a successful home purchase.
If you have more questions about where to start as a homebuyer, or if you’d like to arrange a buyer’s orientation with the Parkway Realty Team, please give me a call or send an email. I’d be happy to talk with you about your specific situation.
